Our Journey

Welcome to our 4-H Club, a community where young minds grow into future leaders! For 75 years, we have been dedicated to empowering youth through hands-on learning experiences that foster personal growth, leadership, and civic responsibility.

Founded with the mission of promoting positive youth development, our club offers a diverse range of programs that allow young people to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships. Whether it’s through agricultural projects, public speaking, or community service, our members learn by doing, gaining the confidence and experience they need to thrive.

At 4-H, we believe in the power of youth to make a difference. Our volunteers, mentors, and supporters work tirelessly to create a nurturing environment where every member can achieve their full potential. Join us as we continue our proud tradition of shaping the leaders of tomorrow!

Livestock Projects

Members gain an understanding of livestock production and management through the experience of owning, caring for, showing and marketing projects, as well as maintaining records.

BEEF
Members will acquire an understanding of the production and management side of the beef cattle industry through the hands-on work they will do with their project animal.

SHEEP
Members enrolled in the Sheep project will cover topics such as management, digestion, nutrient requirements, animal health and breeding throughout their project year.

What 4-H is all about

Community Service

Engaging in community service activities, our members contribute positively to society while developing leadership skills, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility. By participating in various events, youth learn the importance of giving back and making a difference in their communities. In the past, members have helped serve at Community Suppers, Community Garage Sales, visiting Long Term Care centres with their project animals, etc.

Leadership Development

Our Leadership Development program focuses on nurturing the next generation of leaders by offering workshops, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities.

4-H Members run the business meetings. Members learn how to make motions and important decisions. There is a place for everyone at the table, whether that be in a position on the Executive or being a junior member on a committee. 4-H members develop essential leadership skills, teamwork, and communication abilities, preparing them for future success in their personal and professional lives.

Fun!

Our club doesn't only have events about, or with our project animals! Throughout the year, we host numerous fun events and activities that include all members. From sledding parties to laser tag, we aim to engage all members. The Foothills 4-H District and Calgary 4-H Region hold numerous events that 4-H members can also participate in.

Public Speaking

Speaking in front of a group is the number one fear of Canadian adults, but not for those who have been in the 4-H program. 4-H Alumni often list communication skills as one of the biggest assets they have gained from the 4-H program. Practicing communication activities in a club setting not only builds member’s confidence, but also helps them to effectively convey their thoughts and opinions to others. Our club strives to make public speaking a fun, low stress experience for our members.

Practical Learning Opportunities

The Club offers multiple hands on learning events throughout the 4-H year. Expert clinicians are invited to teach our members on specific livestock subjects. Each event is hosted by our club and we invite 4-H members from other clubs in the Foothills District to attend. Beef Clinics are open to our sheep members and vice-versa. We are incredibly lucky to have access to the beautiful Millarville Racetrack Arena year round to host these in person events.
